Aircraft Manufacturers of the 20th Century

OPENING QUESTION:

Which company made the DC-8?

Which company made the 707?

Do a little research and see which plane was the most successful in terms of sales

LEARNING GOAL FOR TODAY: I will trace the merging of airplane manufacturers in the US in the 20th Century during today's class

WORDS O' THE DAY:

  • Boeing Corporation
  • Douglas Corporation
  • McDonnell Douglas Corporation

WORK O' THE DAY:

Check out the DC-8 (below)

Notice how similar it looks to the Boeing 707:

We already know there was a VERY popular DC 3 plane.

Please take a moment and have each member of your crew post a picture of each succeeding plane forward from the DC 3 until <who?> finally ceased making passenger planes in the 1990's.

Please grab about 3 - 4 feet of butcher paper. Draw a line down the middle and label all those DC planes on the left side

  • Include the year it first flew
  • The max number of passengers
  • The top speed
  • The top "ceiling"

Now we'll do a similar thing with the Boeing Corp:

Please take a moment and have each member of your crew post a picture of each succeeding plane forward from the 707 through today.

On the *other side* of your page do the same thing for the Boeing Planes begining with the 707:

  • Include the year it first flew
  • The max number of passengers
  • The top speed
  • The top "ceiling"
